Polymer-polymer interaction, in the presence of a solvent as measured by viscometry

2001

Dilute solution viscometry experiments have been carried out in five ternary polymer systems solvent(1)/polymer(2)/polymer(3). Values of the specific viscosity of polymer (3) in a ‘binary solvent’ formed by polymer(2) + solvent(1) have been used to determine the compatibility of the polymer blends. Krigbaum and Wall formalism has been used to predict compatibility which relies on an interaction parameter that depends on the concentration, weight fraction and molar mass of each polymer. To reduce the dependences and to clarify the criterion of compatibility, a parameter independent of polymer (3) composition and molar mass has been deduced. This parameter shows the same behaviour with polyme…

1997

The molecular weight distributions in many living (e.g. anionic, group transfer, cationic, and radical) polymerizations strongly depend on the dynamics of various equilibria between chain ends of d...

Ds0⁎±(2317)and KD scattering fromBs0decay

2015

We study the B¯s0→Ds−(KD)+ weak decay, and look at the KD invariant mass distribution, for which we use recent lattice QCD results for the KD interaction from where the Ds0⁎(2317) resonance appears as a KD bound state. Since there are not yet experimental data on this reaction, in a second step we propose an analysis method to obtain information on the Ds0⁎(2317) resonance from the future experimental KD mass distribution in this decay. For this purpose, we generate synthetic data taking a few points from our theoretical distribution, to which we add a 5% or 10% error. With this analysis method, we prove that one can obtain from these “data” the existence of a bound KD state, the KD scatter…

Lensing of fast radio bursts: future constraints on primordial black hole density with an extended mass function and a new probe of exotic compact fe…

2018

The discovery of gravitational waves from binary black hole mergers has renewed interest in primordial black holes forming a part of the dark matter density of our Universe. Various tests have been proposed to test this hypothesis. One of the cleanest tests is the lensing of fast radio bursts. In this situation, the presence of a compact object near the line of sight produces two images of the radio burst. If the images are sufficiently separated in time, this technique can constrain the presence of primordial black holes. One can also try to detect the lensed image of the mini-bursts within the main burst. We show that this technique can produce the leading constraints over a wide range in…

Search for Standard Model Higgs Boson Production in Association with a W Boson at CDF

2012

We present a search for the standard model Higgs boson production in association with a W boson in proton-antiproton collisions (pp̅ →W±H→ℓνbb̅ ) at a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The search employs data collected with the CDF II detector which correspond to an integrated luminosity of approximately 2.7  fb-1. We recorded this data with two kinds of triggers. The first kind required high-pT charged leptons and the second required both missing transverse energy and jets. The search selects events consistent with a signature of a single lepton (e±/μ±), missing transverse energy, and two jets. Jets corresponding to bottom quarks are identified with a secondary vertex tagging method and a…

Apparent Molar Mass of a Polyelectrolyte in an Organic Solvent in the Low Ionic Strength Limit As Revealed by Light Scattering

2013

The apparent molar mass of a partially quaternized poly-2-vinylpyridines (degree of quaternization 4.3% < Q < 35%) in 1-propanol is measured by light scattering at low ionic strength (10–6 M < cs < 10–3 M) as a function of polyion repeat unit concentration (7 × 10–5 monomol/L < cm,p < 4 × 10–2 monomol/L). No dialysis was applied prior to measurements. The apparent molar mass under “salt-free” conditions is smaller than the true molar mass by an order of magnitude, while approaching the true value at higher ionic strength. Concomitant data on the dependence of scattering intensity on scattering wave vector show that the dilute polyelectrolyte solutions are strongly correlated. A recent theor…

Molecular Parameters of Hyperbranched Copolymers Obtained by Self-Condensing Vinyl Copolymerization, 2. Non-Equal Rate Constants

2001

The kinetics, molecular weight averages, and the average degree of branching, DB, are calculated for the self-condensing vinyl copolymerization (SCVCP) of a vinyl monomer M with an "inimer" AB* in the case of different reactivities of active species. Emphasis is given to two limiting cases: formation of "macroinimers" occurs if the monomer M is more reactive than the vinyl groups of inimers or polymer, and "hyperstars" are formed in the opposite case. It is shown that the kinetics, the molecular weight averages, and the average degree of branching strongly depend on the relative reactivities of monomer and inimer. Comparison with experimental data shows that consistent fits of the reactivit…

The calculation of the number-average degree of polymerization starting from intrinsic viscosity and overall rate

1962

The relation between the intrinsic viscosity [η] and the number-average degree of polymerization Pn is a function of the molecular weight distribution of the polymer. In a polymer in which the termination of polymer radicals occurs partly by combination of two growing chains, this molecular weight distribution depends on number and extent of additional reactions such as chain transfer; i.e., it is variable. Therefore Pn of such polymers cannot be obtained from intrinsic viscosity measurements by means of an equation of the type [η] = KPna. A new method is proposed which allows the evaluation of Pn in these cases, without necessity of osmotic (or related) measurements or fractionation. The v…

Search for muoproduction of X(3872) at COMPASS and indication of a new state X˜(3872)

2018

Abstract We have searched for exclusive production of exotic charmonia in the reaction μ + N → μ + ( J / ψ π + π − ) π ± N ′ using COMPASS data collected with incoming muons of 160 GeV/c and 200 GeV/c momentum. In the J / ψ π + π − mass distribution we observe a signal with a statistical significance of 4.1 σ. Its mass and width are consistent with those of the X ( 3872 ) . The shape of the π + π − mass distribution from the observed decay into J / ψ π + π − shows disagreement with previous observations for X ( 3872 ) . The observed signal may be interpreted as a possible evidence of a new charmonium state. It could be associated with a neutral partner of X ( 3872 ) with C = − 1 predicted b…
